I moved the hubs around, and the hub that was plugged into the one USB port, didn't work at all. I tried mounting one of the other drives through the directly connected USB port, and it wouldn't mount. A few minutes ago, I switched the USB cables around, and the Time Machine drive mounted just fine, through one of the USB hubs. (before the 10.5.2 upgrade) I installed the 10.5.2 upgrade, and still no mounted drive. I replaced it with a brand new 500 gig drive, and it worked fine for a week, and it stopped mounting yesterday. I finally got it to mount, via Disk Utility, but it soon stopped mounting regularly. The Time Machine drive failed to mount about 3 weeks ago, and I never noticed it missing for about a week. All other USB devices (4 other drives, printer, scanner, etc) were running off two USB hubs plugged into the two remaining USB ports. I had that one drive plugged directly into the right-side most USB port on the back of the iMac.

I have a new iMac (Dec 07), and have recently been having trouble with my Time Machine. I didn't even really start using OS X until 10.5.2, just here and there, and the rest of the time in Vista waiting the "2nd coming."

So all 3rd party k/b and mouse, everything else Apple. I need 5-button mouse, and I need a keyboard with wider spaced keys - like my original SE/30's ADB, or the Apple contour split ergonomic k/b, not small and dainty. Had a bunch of emails back and forth on this. Doesn't happen if direct connected to the front. If my system has a raw unformatted drive, and the mouse is plugged into ACD, the alert "Ignore, Initialize, Eject" that comes up will freeze the mouse and it will be 'locked' in the upper left until the alert times out. The USB hub on the ACD has also been cited and blamed for problems. I could have sworn there were some other USB related issues, and always on the top of the list, a bad USB cable can cause kernel panics, sleep issues, freezing on restart or shutdown for one person, even when they didn't have anything on the cable, just a bad LaCie cable hanging out the back. It's my work tool and I can't afford to lose so much time…nor to get so frustrated. But if I lose that like last time I'm pretty convinced that this is a hardware issue.Ĭuriously I have not seen this problem cited in any forums on the Apple boards and other Mac I've had to do 4 reboots in the last hour. No problems for 8 hours and suddenly tonight everythings starts over again. Today I plugged in the aluminium keyboard. I ran all this time on a plastic keyboard. I installed no third party apps for 2 days.

I then did a clean install again 10.1.5 followed immediately by upgrade 10.5.2 and the graphics upgrade. I did a clean install (with erase disk 1 pass) under 10.1.5 - the problem didn't go. That told me that the problem was not with the keyboard but with the USB ports (power to them?). I then had a problem with the white plastic keyboard and one day, with a USB drive linked to a USB port I got the error message of having disconnected the disk without having ejected it first. This problem occurred randomly, a few, or many times a day.Īpple, after going thru' a number of tests with me over the phone, finally sent me a new keyboard (after having sent 2 white plastic models). The aluminium keyboard would work again sometimes if I changed USB port, sometimes only after rebooting. If I changed this for my old G5 plastic keyboard, I had no problem.
